Can my coffee filter affect the taste of my coffee?

Can your coffee filter effect the taste of your coffee? Put simply, yes. What many people don't realize is coffee filters can effect the taste of your coffee. A pretty disgusting taste, to be honest, a bit like chewing on newspaper. How do you fix this? It's quite simple. If you have a drip-brew coffee machine, all you have to do is, before run it before hand with the filter inside, but don't put the grounds in yet. Instead, pour water into it, and start the cycle. You'll notice the water has a yellow tint, and if you taste it, it tastes like paper. All of that would be in your coffee otherwise. If you have a manual pour-over machine, all you have to do is pour hot water onto the filter, soaking it thoroughly. Cold water does not work as well, because of how the filter works. You might not think it makes a big difference right now, but try it! You'll notice a huge difference in the taste of your brew.
