Brewing perfect coffee without a coffee maker
It is entirely possible to brew perfect coffee without a coffee pot. There are so many advances in making the perfect cup of java- things like K-cup brewers, instant espresso powder, and my personal favorite, the French press. The French press is a glass cylinder with a tightly fitted plunger strainer top. To use, boil water in a kettle or in the microwave. Place one or more tablespoons according to taste of ground coffee (pre-ground, or ground with your favorite bean grinder) in the bottom of the cylinder. I prefer 2 rounded tablespoons to one cup of water for the right blend of strength without the overly bitter aftertaste of super strong coffee. At this point, depending on the season, I like to add a dash of cinnamon or nutmeg directly to the grounds. Next, pour the boiled water into the French press. Place the top on, but DO NOT PLUNGE. It is important to wait at least four minutes for the coffee to steep properly. When the time is up, press the plunger down, trapping the grinds in the bottom. Voila! Pour out your perfect cup of coffee maker-less coffee and add cream and sugar to taste.
